Robert C. Park, M.D. was born in Carlisle, PA in 1932. His baccalaureate degree was from Franklin and Marshall College and his Doctorate in Medicine was awarded from Hahnemann Medical College in 1958. He completed his internship at Lower Bucks County Hospital in 1959 before joining the U.S. Army where he served from 1959-1960 in Seoul, Korea and from 1960-1961 in Taegue, Korea. From 1961-1962 he was Chief, Preventive Medicine and Industrial Health at Fort Monmouth, NJ. Dr. Park completed his OB-GYN residency at Walter Reed General Hospital in 1965. He served as Assistant Chief of the OB-GYN service at Fort Carson, CO from 1965-1968. From 1968-1969 he was Command Officer, 74th Medical Battalion, Chu Lai, Vietnam.
He has the distinction of having been the first gynecologic oncology fellow at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 1969-1971. Dr. Park served as Assistant Chief of the Department of OB-GYN at Walter Reed from 1970-1978 and Chief of GYN Oncology from 1971-1978. He served as Director of the GYN Oncology Fellowship Program from 1971-1992 and was the OB-GYN Residency Program Director from 1977-1980. He served as Chief of the Department of OB-GYN from 1978 until 1984 at which time he was also Consultant to the Army Surgeon General for Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in the subspecialty of Gynecologic Oncology. In 1984 he became Chief of the Clinical Policy Consultants Division of the Army Surgeon General, where he served until his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1988.
As an active researcher in his subspecialty, Dr. Park was the author of numerous scientific papers and was a contributor to several textbooks. Dr. Park’s contributions are manifested in the long list of appointments and elected positions he has held. He was the President of The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists from 1986-1987, President of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons from 1990-1991 and the President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists from 1988-1989. He also served as Group Chairman of the Gynecologic Oncology Group from 1989-2002.
Dr. Park held the appointment as Distinguished Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
